You are spot on, Susan. Are we better off financially, yes, but not because of anything this administration has done. And, perhaps, in spite of this administration specifically. Are we better off on a national security basis? I have to answer with a resounding No. Are we better off in the political/representational sense? I have to honestly say Yes and No. No, because our elected representatives are not listening to the will of the people. When even the historically liberal-leaning polls are getting 60% or more negative opinions on healthcare, energy, and stimulus, and Congress is still charging toward much bigger government and more government control, then it is clear they are not listening to the will of the people. On the political front, I have to say we are better off as a people because we are now willing to openly voice our political views. I cannot count this as a bad thing. Voicing political opinion is a core value of our great country. It is anti-American to want to change this value. To the detriment of us all, the Left does not understand this simple fact: the things that protect and encourage our freedom of expression are the very things they want to change.

Susan,
Great story and great blog! I had never thought of a "competition" for tech/media types. I live in a world of competitive "prizes" (grants) and article competitions. It would be great to institute a competition for young tech-savy promotional types. Hmmm...wonder if that would work for institutions in Houston...?
